Pierce is top honcho in charge of the fifteen hundred acre ranch, Bonner-Willow. Although he owns a Master’s in business administration, he loves to be around horses. He considers himself more of a cowboy than a CEO.

When Kat becomes the bearer of unexpected news about her past from ex-convict, ex-lawyer Victor Horn, she wonders how she will ever find her roots and manage to put the pieces of her life back together again. She turns to Pierce, the dark hair and blue eyed hunk whom Kat believes, thinks he is God's gift to women.

Pierce reluctantly agrees to help, partly for reasons of his own. He worries about his lawyerly father being involved with Victor's murder. As Pierce and Kat travel to Chicago together, they walk right into a criminal investigation headed by two bumbling detectives. Kat makes a date with a potential serial killer, and Pierce, whose affection for Kat is slowly changing to one of deeper commitment, worries about her safety. Meanwhile, Kat bumps into a doppelganger she believes is stalking her, only to discover that no one else ever sees her.

Mirror Deep uncovers many twists and turns designed to keep the reader guessing until the end. Through all the action, Pierce remains by Kat's side. Will he be able to hide from Kat his mounting desire? Will Kat find who this look alike is and why she is trying to warn her? Does Kat follow a stranger to Paris, France simply to put miles between her and Pierce or to avoid the threat of a potential killer?

My review:
This one has it all! Mystery, suspense, intrigue, romance, and even a little supernatural thrown in.  It took me a bit to get into the groove of the story but once I did I was definitely hooked and wanted to find out more. Parts of it got a bit confusing but overall it was a great story.
I really liked the characters. Kat is a strong willed female, who's very sassy. Pierce whose her second cousin is a total ladies man and loves to mess with Kat and get her riled.  I was bothered at first when it was first implied that Pierce was in love with Kat because it was still a little gross to me the second cousin thing. But it really all works out in the end. There's definitely a lot more to the story and their banter definitely worked. So I got over my initial fears and just went with the story.
I'd definitely recommend for those who love a good mystery. There's no sex so in it and it isn't overtly dark, so it's definitely enjoyable for those who like a good mystery without it being to sinister.

Lover Unbound & Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward reviews

304027
Description from Goodreads:

In Caldwell, New York, war rages between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Now the cold heart of a cunning predator will be warmed against its will...Ruthless and brilliant, Vishous, son of the Bloodletter, possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a pretrans growing up in his father's war camp he was tormented and abused. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that cannot include her...

My review:
Vishous was the brother that interested me the most from the first book. He was just so mysterious and captivating. His story is really heartbreaking and definitely helps you understand why he seems so cold. I will admit that the first time I read this I was disappointed with how certain things went with Jane but to avoid spoilers I wont mention what happens but the second time around I was more open to it and it's an interesting twist. Jane is a great character too. Very witty and had a take no prisoners attitude. They were very well matched. So this is one of my fav's of the series.

Description from Goodreads:
In this "frighteningly addictive" paranormal romance saga there's a war raging between vampires and their slayers. Here are the stories of a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. And now a dutiful twin must choose between two lives...Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood's bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is obligated to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished.

As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body, but his heart for herself. She is drawn to the noble responsibility behind the emotionally scarred male. But Phury has never allowed himself to know pleasure or joy. As the war with the Lessening Society grows grim, tragedy looms over the Brotherhood's mansion, and Phury must decide between duty and love....

My review:
This one was hard to get through. Phury isn't one of my favorite brothers but I do think he was dealt a bad hand. I really liked his character in the earlier novels but in the later books and this one he just became very sad and annoying to me. I was just fed up with his self pitying. Now I do think he was treated pretty awful from those he calls brothers and even his twin Zsadist. He gave up a lot for them and when he was going through some bad stuff they basically just wrote him off.  I loved getting more backround on some of the other characters in the series and it makes me want to read their books even more. This one just left me wanting more for Phury though. I may not necessarily like him the most but I think he did deserve better.

Excerpt

“I think you should get a tattoo with my name on it.” He grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief.

“You are drunk!” She accused, slapping his sweaty shoulder.

His laughter boomed with the rustle of the wind in the trees. His chest lifted her with each chuckle. “You should. You belong to me now.”

“Belong? Yeah.” She felt his forehead. “You’re either drunk or sick to be speaking that much nonsense.”

He had to be drunk. She’d been in love with him for years. And other than the kiss he’d given her during Ellie’s party, he’d never really done anything near like what he was doing now. A sound alerted her to turn toward the trees. The idea someone was near wasn’t one she liked. She hurried to dress before someone caught her naked.

“I’m going home, Spot.”

He helped her stand and cupped her face. “At least you’re not calling me Furball like Jordan does Aric. I’ll go see if there’s anyone in the area. Give me a few minutes, and I’ll take you home.”

She shook her head. “Not necessary. I’m…I need to think.”

“You’re not suddenly changing your mind about what happened here, are you?” He asked.

“No, but I don’t do these kind of things. You know that. It’s best if I go home, and we see each other in a few days. Take a break.”

“Not a few days. Tomorrow,” he said in the bossy voice she wasn’t very fond of.

“I’ll think about it. You know, for a mutt you’re quite bossy, Spot.” She spun to gather the equipment, but he turned her to face him.

She had to go. All kinds of confusion clouded her mind. She and Nate had finally done something special and incredible. She had a hard time stamping her own claim on him. And there lay her problem. Her heart pounded in her chest as fear flowed through her veins, urging her to move. To go. To run back to the safety of her home and keep away from the man making her want things she didn’t normally need. Emotional attachments frightened her, and she steered clear of them. But it didn’t help her idea of wanting a true family. No matter how she looked at it, at some point she would have to take the step to get past the emotional stuff that seemed so scary. Being always closed off really made her life difficult.

“I’ve made multiple attempts at asking you on dates, and I can never get you to say yes.”

“I didn’t really think you were being serious.”

His brows dipped low. “Why not?”

Why not indeed? There wasn’t a single valid reason for her to have rejected his advances all this time other than the fact she was afraid of the future with any man. Afraid of becoming a clingy copy of her mother. “I…”

“See, you don’t have a reason. This putting me off ends now. Tomorrow we’ll spend some time together. Just you and me. Now, say yes.”

What she wanted to say were a couple of choice words her mouth refused to let loose. But how could she say no again? She’d be turning him down when what she really wanted was to be with him. If she didn’t give it a chance, she knew she’d live with too many what ifs. “I will consider seeing you tomorrow, but I make no promises of any other time.”

He stalked her. Tension poured out of each of his steps toward her. Her hackles rose at the line bisecting his brow into a deep frown. Then he moved forward, crowding her and kissed her one more time before taking a step back from her. “Tomorrow.”

She nodded in defeat. “Tomorrow.”

Story? What Story?

Oh the joys of being a writer. Sometimes we sit there writing absolute nonsense before we come up with a plot that works. And even then it could just be a poorly constructed idea. There have been times I start writing and stop after a few thousand words because I can't figure out where the story is going.  So I leave it and come back later on. I think a lot of authors forget to return later on to a story. They end up with a bunch of short beginnings and that's it. A story won't always come to us as a whole in one shot.  Heck at times I wake up in the middle of the night with a plot fully worked out. Now that's awesome. Doesn't always happen though.  But you don't stop even if you're rewriting useless stuff. Writing the things clogging your imagination will help keep the artistic juices flowing. Sometimes we write a lot of stuff that makes no sense but eventually we find that one line we need to make the plot work. And sometimes, we leave all that other stuff we thought was nonsense alone and later on it creates a brand new story we can use to give our readers something new to love. So while we all have those this story sucks moments, eventually it works out. Though eventually may be  a while, don’t give up

Interview with Christa and Hayden from Divided Loyalties

It’s so wonderful to be here today with Hayden and Christa. They agreed to be interviewed and share a few things with you. Thanks for stopping by.

Lia: Hi, Christa and Hayden! Please start off by tell everyone about you: job, hobbies, special talents, and anything else you would want to share.

Christa: Hi. It’s great to be here. Well, right now I’m unemployed, but I’m loving the time I have to spend with my niece and nephew and my new mate. I don’t have any hobbies, never had time for them. As for special talents, that would have to be killing rogues. It’s what I was trained to do when I worked for shield.

Hayden: She has many other talents too. *he dodges Christa’s slap* My job is to keep the enforcers and sentries in line. I manage their schedules and training along with issues that come up with the junior soldiers.

Lia: Tell us about the first time you met. Was it love at first sight?

Christa: He stormed into Shield HQ with his brother and a leopard sentry named Kirk. They killed everyone I worked with and kidnapped me. So, no, it wasn’t love at first sight.

Hayden: I knew she was my mate the moment I caught her scent. That’s why I took her with me.

Christa: *rolled her eyes* He’s so romantic.

Lia: Okay, so the first meeting didn’t go so well. But you did eventually come to a consensus and the attraction grew.

Christa: Yes, Hayden can be persuasive.

Lia: What is your favorite part of each other?

Hayden: Her eyes. They hold so much passion and light.

Christa: *links her fingers with his* His alpha strength.

Lia: Care to share future plans?

Hayden: It’s all about the rebuild now and securing the den.

Christa: And getting use to the mating bond. *she laughs* But seriously, the twins and I will be getting settled into our new lives with our new family.

Lia: Thanks again for chatting with me.

For find out more about Christa and Hayden, check out their story, Divided Loyalties.

Divided Loyalties by Lia Davis – Excerpt Six

Ana must have been staring at the family photo for hours. At least that’s what it seemed like, even though she’d arrived at Blaine and his mates’ home fifteen minutes ago.

The Alpha family home.

The one she should have grown up in, but didn’t, thanks to Felix Darwin, the bastard Alpha of the rogue Onyx Pack and the same male trying to destroy so many shifter communities and innocent lives. The one she believed was her father until a few weeks ago. That was when she had left the only life she’d known for a new one within a new Pack where her real family lived.

The family in the photo was hers, at least should have been hers. Longing filled her, making her chest ache and her eyes burn. The three males, Keegan, Blaine, and Alec, circled a dark-haired female. Keegan, her biological father, stood at the female’s back, hands resting on her shoulders.

The female was her mother. Cate. Ana’s nose tingled and vision blurred. Taking a deep breath, she blinked the tears away. She would not cry, damn it.

Ana wasn’t as sad as she was angry. She’d missed out on so much of life because Felix stole her away her parents and her brothers. Now she had thirty-eight years to catch up on.

She reached out and brushed a finger over Cate’s smiling face. The only difference in their looks was Cate had brown curly hair, and Ana had straight black hair like Keegan’s.

“I still can’t believe how much you look like her.”

Ana whirled around at the sound of the male voice, startled and a little embarrassed to be caught nosing around. Alec leaned against the kitchen island with his arms folded. His expression was devoid of any emotion, just like all the other times she’d seen him. “I’m sorry, I…”

Alec straightened and walked toward her. Something flashed across his face that looked a little like sadness, but it was gone almost as fast as it appeared. “Don’t apologize. This is your home, too.”

She shrugged and turned back to the photo. “All my life I’d wondered who my mother was. I imagined what she looked like. If she would have told me bedtime stories.” She sighed and swallowed the lump in her throat. “All silly little-girl dreams.”

Alec stepped next to her and pressed his shoulder into hers. His warmth and the connection she felt whenever she was near her new family was almost too much for her. She fought not to move away from him. The discomfort of all the kindness and acceptance was making her sappy.

She didn’t have time for softness. She had to hunt Felix down and stop him before he did any more damage.

“She did read to you when she was pregnant. I used to sit nearby to listen while pretending to work.”

She peered at his profile, studying his sculptured features that she guessed females embarrassed themselves over. When Ana had first seen Alec, she’d thought he wouldn’t welcome her. In the medical center, he’d just stared at her, brows dipped in a frown, and shadows showed beneath the surface. Her first thought had been stay away.

And that’s what she’d done.

Now to stand shoulder-to-shoulder, as he shared a private moment with her made her heart ache all the more. He took in a deep breath and rolled his shoulders then stepped away from her. “What are you doing today?”

“I’m shadowing Cameron.”

He nodded and put his hands in the back pockets of his blue jeans. “Good. Well, I have junior soldiers to train and the computers in the new nursery need setting up.”

Alec and the wolf Beta, Dane, were the go-to people for technical issues, and they’d built and monitored the electronic part of the security system for the den.

Silence filled the small space between them. Ana looked around the room, unsure what to say to the brother she felt a connection to, but had never known.

Finally, Alec spoke. “Well, I better get going. I’ll see you at dinner?”

She smiled. The Andrews family along with a few extended family members and friends got together every night for dinner at Keegan and Addyson’s home since it was large enough to accommodate their growing number.

“Yes, I’ll be at dinner.”

Alec smiled, wide, making his brown eyes crinkle a little. “Good. See you then.”

He turned and left. Ana was still smiling when the front door closed, and Cameron came into the room from the hallway behind her.

“Was that Alec?”

“Yes.” Ana turned to look at the Alpha’s mate, her new sister-in-law, and frowned. Cameron seemed a little pale. “Are you feeling okay?”

Cameron smiled, but it wasn’t a very convincing one. “Yeah, just a little queasy. Probably something I ate.”

On the heels of that statement, Graham, one of Cam’s mates, walked into the room bare-chested and the top button of his jeans undone. Ana felt her cheeks heat, and she turned her head when he wrapped his arms around Cam and kissed her neck.

A few moments later Cam met her at the door. “Where do you want to go first?”

“I’m not sure. I’m just shadowing today, so whatever you need to do is good with me.”

“Cool. It’s my off day, so we can see if we can stir up some trouble.”

Ana smiled, deciding she liked her new sister-in-law.

E.J. Wesley's Winter Thrills and Chills tour! + Giveaway

I'm hosting a stop on  E.J. Wesley's Winter Thrills and Chills Tour for his Moonsongs Series.  This tour is running January 6-17 and consists of reviews, interviews, top tens, guest posts and of course, giveaways!  Be sure to check out the tour page for the full list of stops.

~Book 1 - Blood Fugue~

“Some folks treated the past like an old friend. The memories warmed them with fondness for what was, and hope for what was to come. Not me. When I thought of long ago, my insides curdled, and I was left feeling sour and wasted.”

Jenny Schmidt is a young woman with old heartaches. A small town Texas girl with big city attitude, she just doesn’t fit in. Not that she has ever tried.

Life has pummeled her heart into one big, lonely callus. She has no siblings, both parents were dead by sixteen, and her last grandparent—and caretaker—was in the ground before she turned twenty-one. She’s the last living member of her immediate family. Or so she thinks…

“We found my ‘grandfather’ sitting at his dining room table. An entire scorched pot of coffee dangled from his shaky hand. His skin was the ashen gray shade of thunderclouds, not the rich mocha from the photo I’d seen. There were dark blue circles under each swollen red eye. A halo of white hair skirted his bald head, a crown of tangles and mats. Corpses had more life in them.”

Suddenly, instead of burying it with the dead, Jenny is forced to confront the past. Armed only with an ancient family journal, her rifle, and an Apache tomahawk, she must save her grandfather’s life and embrace her dangerous heritage. Or be devoured by it.

~Book 2 - Witch's Nocturne~

After receiving an ancient tribal journal from her grandfather, Jenny is sent on a mission of discovery in an attempt to unravel clues to her family's monster hunting past. The journey becomes more than academic when she is asked to confront a coven of dangerous witches who plan to cast an insidious spell on the plains of West Texas.

 ~Book 3 - Dark Prelude~

Jenny Moonsong recently inherited the title of "monster hunter" and an ancient tribal journal/how-to manual passed down by her Apache ancestors. Unfortunately, a lot of on-the-job training is required to be a monster hunter, and unlike her computer repair business, this gig could literally kill her.

Dark Prelude finds the feisty protagonist, Jenny, searching for her best friend Marshal's missing father in the midst of a freak, West Texas winter storm. To survive the frigid night, she'll have to deal with a hated town rival, face a monstrous creature no Moonsong hunter has ever encountered before, and undo a mysterious curse. Can she keep everyone alive? If not, who will pay the ultimate price?

~Book 4: Dragon's Game~

Jenny Moonsong recently inherited the title of "monster hunter" and an ancient tribal journal/how-to manual passed down by her Apache ancestors. She has already faced a werewolf, witches, and a troll. But nothing could prepare her for her latest confrontation...

Dragon's Game, Moonsongs Book 4, finds Jenny out of her rural West Texas element, searching for an evil witch in an urban Houston nightclub. After attempting to help a handsome and mysterious stranger out of a jam, she finds herself on the run from a ruthless gang who are even more dangerous than they initially appear.

Forced into a twisted game of life and death, Jenny must navigate the complexity of a budding relationship, and somehow survive a night filled with unexpected horror and paranormal mystery.

Dragon's Game is approximately 14,000 words or 45 pages of humor, horror and paranormal mystery. It is the fourth volume of the Moonsongs Books, an ongoing series of New Adult, urban fantasy novelettes by author E.J. Wesley.

~Book 5- Vampire's Ball~

Jenny Moonsong recently inherited the title of "monster hunter" and an ancient tribal journal/how-to manual passed down by her Apache ancestors. Being a girl of action, she has found herself particularly capable when it comes to battling the werewolves, trolls, and other supernatural denizens lurking in the Texas night. Until now.

Vampire's Ball, Moonsongs book 5, finds Jenny and her best friend Marshal in their most harrowing adventure yet. Traveling by boat to an extravagant masquerade party located at a Galveston Island mansion, Jenny must parlay with an ancient vampire in order to secure the release of the dragon princes, Isis. The unexpected return of an old "friend" turns the evening into chaos, and leaves Jenny and company once again fighting for survival amidst a sea of supernatural foes.

Vampire's Ball is approximately 12,500 words of humor, horror and paranormal mystery. It is the fifth volume of the Moonsongs Books, an ongoing series of New Adult, urban fantasy novelettes by author E.J. Wesley.

~Moonsongs Anthology~

The Moonsongs Anthology 1 collects the first three Moonsongs books--a series of New Adult paranormal-horror-action novelettes--in one exciting volume. Follow Jenny and her best friend Marshal on their dangerous quest to unlock the secrets of her past.

Moonsongs Anthology 1 collects the three previously published Moonsongs adventures: Blood Fugue (Book 1), Witch's Nocturne (Book 2), and Dark Prelude (Book 3).

~About the Author~

Growing up in small-town Oklahoma, there were limits on the amount and types of entertainment at my disposal. Perhaps that’s why I set my imagination free. After collecting degrees in psychology and counseling, life brought me to Missouri, Texas, and Northern California—where I currently read, write, and live. I fill my spare time playing video games, watching movies, planning for the zombie apocalypse, reading graphic novels, and playing with my dogs.

My passion for New Adult literature led me to producing the weekly New Adult Lit Chat on Twitter, and contributing to the NA Alley Blog. I’m also the author of the Moonsongs Books, a series of New Adult, speculative-rural fantasy novelettes.

My review:
I was given the first 3 books in the series in exchange for my review
The 1st story hooked me right off the back with the main character Jenny's unique voice. She's a very sarcastic and witty character.  I could tell this was going to be a very quirky and unique series.  Book one was mostly just a build up to find out the truth about Jenny's heritage and what her family's "Job" is.
Book 2 has a lot more action and adventure. Jenny's really trying to do her family duty. Her best friend Marshall is a really great character too. The 2 really play well off each others antics.
Books 3 is probably my favorite since it seems to have more depth. The series just keeps building with the storyline and growing. There was still a lot of humor and fun in this installment but it was also more emotional. There is definitely more insight into the characters.
So overall I really did enjoy these. I definitely plan on reading the rest. The author really gives the characters a great voice and a new take on fighting the supernatural.
