Excerpt

They walked in late in the evening, a little drunk and a lot rowdy, three of them laughing and dragging the fourth along with them.

I carried an empty tray in one hand and tried to tuck my notepad into the back pocket of my black, too tight jeans with the other. The place was filled with smoke and laughter, but I was dead tired and the thick layer of cheap makeup I had put on many hours earlier felt sticky. I wasn’t sure where to sleep when I got off shift, and my usual place behind the University library wasn’t an option because early that morning, they’d started removing the dumpsters I usually huddled between. Someone said that they were clearing the site to start building a new art department, but I didn’t care. I’d been busy grabbing my few belongings, scanning the area to see if someone left anything useful that I could get my hands on.

“Come on Hawk,” I heard one of the men saying. “You lost the bet, we got to choose your loss, and this is our choice.”

I wondered what they were doing in a bar like Kinkers. I’d worked there for almost six months, and it was clean enough, but it was located on a back road in a part of Prosper well known to be unsafe. The owner liked to call it a roadhouse and they served lunch, which was the shift I worked most of the time. In the evenings, it was mostly a bar, and no one ever ordered any food, unless you counted peanuts and chips.

It was also a strip joint, and it was usually filled with men but that night was a Friday, so it was ladies’ night. This meant male strippers and an audience filled with women in various stages of inebriation.

“I’m not going to –” the man they’d called Hawk started, but another man cut him off.

“Oh, but you are,” he said gleefully, and called out when the angry man made a dash for the door, “Guys, do something. He’s escaping.”

I couldn’t hold back a loud giggle when I realized why they were there. They meant to put their friend on stage. One of the other men moved slightly, and I turned to look at him. Then I stopped breathing. He was tall and lean, with unruly black hair that was a little too long, and laughing brown eyes. He was so beautiful.

Our eyes met and held, and his brows went up a little.

“Hey, he’s running,” someone shouted, and our gazes unlocked.

The beautiful man turned toward the door, and flicked his fingers at our bouncers in a small gesture, indicating that they should stop his fleeing friend. To my surprise, they grinned and stepped in front of the man just as he reached the doors. I wondered if he’d be crazy enough to fight the brawny bouncers, and for a few seconds, it seemed like he would, but then his head tilted back, and he looked up at the ceiling. I saw his shoulders go up a little as if he was inhaling, and then he turned.

He was gorgeous too although in a completely different way. He looked dangerous and hard. When he walked back to his friends, his eyes flicked over me, and I pulled in air because of the intensity in them, but also because their color was such light amber, they were almost yellow.

“Get the thong,” one of his friends shouted, and the women around the stage that had followed the events started cheering.

“No,” the yellow-eyed man said calmly. “I’ll do this because I pay my debts, but I am not wearing a thong.”

“Don’t worry, Hawk,” the beautiful man laughed. “There are other options.”

Another cheer erupted, and then they moved toward the door leading backstage. Bobby Dawner, the owner of the bar, met them and greeted the beautiful man with a back-thumping bear hug. I heard him boom the man’s name, and it burned into my soul.

“Miller.”

That was the night everything changed. When I got off my shift and walked through the empty streets, looking for something, anything, that could provide cover, I was beaten up by a young man who wanted my meager tips from the evening. I woke up in the hospital and saw a woman sitting in a chair, calmly watching me.

“Do you need help, child?” she asked.

I looked back at her for a long time, and then I gave up. I’d learned the hard way never to trust anyone, but her eyes were kind, and I couldn’t make it on my own anymore, so I decided that I’d accept whatever bad things she might have in store for me. It wouldn’t be worse than the life I already had.

“Yes,” I whispered.

Her eyes softened, and a gentle smile curved her mouth, and when I saw it, I smiled back, tentatively.

“I’m Joelle,” she said.

I was fourteen years old, and that was the night my life resumed.

About the Author

The proper way to put it here would probably be to describe how I love to play with our two big dogs, adore my fantastic daughters and how much I love to read.

Another way would be to use my imagination and then I would be a super powerful warrior woman, think Xena the warrior princess (though with less tacky clothes). Or when I think of it, maybe I’m actually more of a Hercule Poirot (sans the suit and moustache). Or maybe I’m like Aragorn, strong and cool and then I might get to meet Gandalf! Or I could be Bella’s pretty cousin and snap Jacob up in a second (yeah, I’m so not team Edward), or wait, maybe I could be like one of them heroines in historical novels who swoon all the time. I’ve always wanted to swoon…

Well, I guess you get how my mind is working (or not working, some say).

Anyways, I like to write. Stories, adventures, romantic and happy stuff mixed up with sorrow and hardship, and bit of laughter here and there because the way I see it – life is way too short to go around feeling grumpy.

Notus Motorcycle Club Series, Book 1
Romance Suspense, MC Romance
Date Published: May 2017

Identical twin sisters move to St. John's, Oregon, buy Vavoom's Bar, and purposely put themselves into the path of Notus Motorcycle Club.

Burdened by a deep, dark secret, Clara has to be careful because one wrong step, one wrong word, could land her and Gracie in prison. Her need to stay close to the motorcycle club members backfire when Wayne Shaw throws her heart into a tailspin. There is more to the possessive biker than she originally thought. Cornered and out of options, she can only go forward and hope Wayne protects her.

Wayne Shaw splits his time between working at Port Loaders, searching for missing persons in partnership with the local police department, and keeping Notus Motorcycle Club together in hopes a brother will come home. Skilled at finding clues normal people miss, he has no trouble telling the new owners of Vavoom's apart. He only wants Clara.

When a little girl goes missing, followed by a teenager disappearing, Wayne's need to keep Clara safe while searching for a serial killer gets tested…until he's no longer sure who is the hunted and who is the hunter.

Excerpt

Wayne placed the dishes in the sink, shut off the lights, and guided her to the stairs. Halfway up the steps, he stopped. "Kings of Leon."

"What?"

He looked at her. "The group that does the song you were humming. Sex on Fire."

She laughed and smacked his arm. "No way."

"Swear it." He kissed her quickly and chuckled.

She shook with laughter all the way to his bedroom. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined Wayne, president of Notus MC, teasing her or so fun to be around. The normal awkwardness of first-time sex with another person never showed up. Everything that had to do with him seemed almost too perfect.

A phone beeped in Wayne's back pocket, and two seconds later the doorbell rang. She dropped his hand and stood beside the bed.

"Hang on a second. I need to answer the door." He kept his eyes on the screen of his phone and walked out of the room.

She followed him to the bedroom doorway and stopped. He'd gone downstairs.

In her sight, Wayne opened the front door at the bottom of the stairs. Glen walked inside. Clara stepped back planning to crawl into bed and give Wayne privacy when Glen said, "A girl is missing."

A chill crawled up her spine. She stepped forward, staying out of sight.

Haunted by the King of Death – Excerpt
Grave kicked off hard, his left boot skidding on the loose black earth as he propelled himself to his right. He rolled across the ground, evading the meaty fist that had been aimed at his head and came up on his feet. Behind him, the demon male turned on a snarl and Grave dipped his body low and swept his left leg out in a swift arc, catching the male across the back of his knees as he launched another attack.
The large demon hit the earth with a thud and a growl, and Grave sprang to his feet, scooped up his fallen blade and brought it down in a fast arc, little more than a blur of silver cutting through the low evening light of the Seventh Realm.
It sliced through the demon’s neck just as easily.
Blood sprayed in a burst of crimson and then dwindled to a steady trickle that pumped in time with the male’s heart as it slowed to a halt.
Grave breathed hard, the scent of blood overwhelming as it drenched the churned earth and the bodies strewn across it. Several of his men had fallen, their corpses resting in tangled heaps beside those of their allies, the demons of the Seventh Realm, and their enemies, the demons of the Sixth.
He licked his bloodied fangs, savouring the rich tang of his victims. The darkness within him pushed harder and he embraced it, savoured it as he savoured the blood. Nurtured it.
Asher, his second in command, a male with ice blond hair stained crimson in places, halted beside him for a heartbeat, long enough to check on him and give a brief nod before he kicked off, a blur in the falling darkness.
The male knew better than to coddle him in battle, or question him, although it had been clear he had wanted to do both.
With a low snarl, Grave stalked forwards, prowling through the fallen demons and vampires, his scarlet eyes locked ahead of him on the battle where it had moved back towards the border.
They were winning, driving out the demons of the Sixth Realm who had dared to invade the Seventh.
The battle still raged, hundreds of demons of the Sixth Realm, marked by their golden-brown horns, chestnut hair and golden eyes, clashed against his men and the demons of the Seventh. The sound of war filled his ears, and his heart, the constant din of battle axes and swords striking and agonised bellows as warriors fell mingled with shouts of victory.
Gods, he loved war.
Courted it almost as fervently as he courted his bloodlust.
Foolish were the vampires who feared it.
He licked his fangs and bit back a moan as he thought about sinking them into demon flesh together with his claws, tearing apart his foes to sate the dark hunger riding him.
A dark hunger that gave him strength, power to defeat any foe he met in battle. Bloodlust that had given him the reputation he had fought for and deserved. A reputation that meant more to him than anything else.
Two large demons of the Sixth Realm cut down one from the Seventh and turned his way, slow smiles curving their lips as they saw he was alone. Fools. They thought they could end him?
He laughed as he flexed his fingers around the black and red hilt of his katana, the sound so out of place in the midst of battle that it gave the demons pause.
Grave used it to his advantage.
With all the preternatural speed of his kind, he closed the gap between them and had his blade buried hilt-deep in the gut of the demon on the right before the male had even seen him. The male let out a garbled cry and the other one turned on him, raising his double-axe to cut Grave down.
He left his blade in the stomach of the first demon and spun to face the second. The axe came down fast and he grunted as he raised his right arm above his head and the thick black handle struck his forearm. Pain splintered in a ring where it had hit, warning of a fracture. Grave paid his body no heed and snarled as he shoved upwards, knocking the axe and the male’s arm up with it.
The demon staggered backwards and Grave sprung forwards, sank the claws of his right hand deep into the demon’s fleshy left shoulder and bit down hard on the right side of his throat. The male roared and grabbed him, and Grave’s fangs tore through his neck as he was ripped away.
He flew through the air and landed hard on a corpse with a grunt.
Bastard.
He licked his fangs and pushed onto his feet, coming to face his foe again.
One of his men was there already, battling the demon male, and Grave growled low in his throat at the sight, the darkness that flowed through his veins growing blacker as his mind whispered dangerous words, taunting him with the fact someone had stolen his prey.
He had been weak again, and now someone had taken what was his.
He hunched forwards and roared out his fury, and both the demon and the vampire stopped with their axe and sword in mid swing.
He would kill both of them. The demon for the fun of it and the vampire because the impudent bastard had stolen his prey.
No one took what was his.
No one.
He ran at both males and the vampire was gone in a flash, disappearing from the fray like the pathetic creature he was. He would deal with him later. He snarled as the demon swung the axe at him and threw himself feet first under the blow, skidding across the ground and ending up next to the first demon.
Grave grinned.
He wrapped his fingers around the hilt of his sword and slowly pulled it free of the corpse as he rose onto his feet.
His senses warned of the demon behind him.
He took his time wiping the blade clean on the corpse’s leathers.
Could almost feel the fetid breath of the second demon on the back of his neck and hear the whisper of death as the axe sliced through the air aimed for his head.
Fool.
Grave dropped to his knees and the demon’s axe cut through the air above him. He twisted as he shoved onto his feet and arced his blade upwards, cutting across the demon’s broad chest. The male bellowed and stumbled back two steps before recovering and swinging the axe again. Grave dodged right but the blade nicked his shoulder, cutting through his black shirt, and the scent of his own blood laced the air, strong on his senses.
He saw red.
In a blur of speed, he came around behind the demon and drove his sword forwards, piercing deep into the male’s side, a wound meant to slow rather than kill.
This one had cut him, and that meant this one died by his fangs.
The male staggered forwards and tried to turn, but Grave leaped on his back and tipped him off balance. The demon landed face first on the bloodied black earth and Grave slammed into his bare back. He grabbed the demon’s left horn and yanked his head back as he struck hard, sinking his fangs into the right side of his throat. The male struggled, bucking wildly, and Grave bit deeper and raked his fangs through the male’s flesh, cutting long grooves into his skin. Blood poured from the wound, flowing so quickly he almost choked on it as he tried to swallow it all, his bloodlust demanding he didn’t waste a drop.
He gulped it down and groaned as the demon’s struggles weakened and his heart began to falter. There was no sweeter thrill than this for him, not anymore. War. Gods how he craved it.
Each blow that bruised his flesh, shattered bone and tore muscle.
Each dance with death.
He would wage war for free, but the Preux Chevaliers traditionally worked for the highest bidder, and who was he to turn down a tidy sum of gold?
He had been raised an aristocrat, born to one of the most powerful pureblood vampire families, and as an aristocrat he had grown accustomed to a certain level of comfort and convenience, and that required money.
He wasn’t an elite, those born to a family with lowly turned humans in their ranks or sired by such a creature.
He was an aristocrat.
A pureblood.
As all in the Preux Chevaliers were.
They were the most powerful of their kind. Faster, stronger, superior in every way to an elite. Bred from the purest blood, able to trace their ancestry back to the elves.
But with pure blood came what many in the vampire world viewed as a terrible curse—bloodlust.
He released the demon when his heart gave out and sat back on him, breathing hard and grinning as his blood thundered in his veins, pleasure rolling hot and sweet through him.
Pleasure his bloodlust gave to him.
Pleasure that had become his everything.
Only a fool would deny themselves the ecstasy of sating their bloodlust. With every step closer to the edge that he took, that ecstasy only grew more intense, more satisfying, until he was chasing the next high, aching for it to be better than the last.
His crimson eyes scanned the battle that had moved further from him, nearing the black mountains that formed the border between the Seventh Realm and the Devil’s domain, the path the demons of the Sixth had taken to avoid entering the Fifth to reach the Seventh.
He gave himself another minute to savour the high of his kill and then lumbered onto his feet, pulled his blade free and cleaned it on the dead male’s dark gold leathers. He could feel his bloodlust fading again, satisfied for now, but it would soon rise again, returning to embrace him and deliver him another high, and another victory.
Grave prowled through the corpses towards the battle, itching with the need to hurl himself into another fight, to feel fists striking his flesh and cracking his bones. The darkness that had been ebbing away began to flow back again, slowly filling his veins as he stalked towards his next victim, hungry for more.
Itching for another fix.
He singled out the male he had decided led the Sixth Realm demons, one who stood at least three inches taller than the rest and he had caught barking orders at the others. He wielded his broadsword with devastating skill, cutting down a demon of the Seventh and injuring one of Grave’s men in the process. The demon commander whirled to face three vampires who had come up behind him, and Grave snarled as he spotted his second in command among them.
“Asher,” Grave barked and the blond looked in his direction. Grave shifted his gaze from him to the demon and snarled, “Mine.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Asher bowed his head and signalled to his two men, and together they backed away from the demon as he turned to face Grave.
The male shoved bloodstained fingers through his wild chestnut hair, preening it back from his face, and smirked at him. Crimson coated every inch of his broad bare chest and had soaked into his deep gold leathers, forming dark veins across the material. The demon flexed the fingers of his other hand around the hilt of his broadsword, a blade that matched Grave in height, and stared him down, his golden eyes glowing brightly in the darkness.
“Come, Little Vampire.” The warrior crooked a clawed finger, his English sounding rough with his demonic accent, and grinned again, flashing fangs as his horns curled from behind his pointed ears, twisting around like a ram’s. “Let us see who is the true King of Death.”
Grave readied his blade and pressed the ball of his right foot into the black earth, preparing to launch at the male and do just that.
Darkness rolled over the land, visceral power that pressed down on him and chilled his blood.
Around him, the battle stilled, warriors frozen in position, locked in combat for a heartbeat before they all broke apart and turned as one towards the black mountains.
Grave looked there.
A male stood on a huge rock at the base of the mountain, just metres beyond the edge of the battle. He towered over them, black eyes surveying every warrior below him, gold elliptical pupils flashing as his gaze shifted quickly from one male to the next. His stance was casual, the black gauntlet covering the lower half of his right arm resting on the hilt of a huge black broadsword that stood beside him, the point buried into the solid rock, but Grave had the feeling this male hadn’t come to the edge of the Devil’s domain just to watch them fight.
The demon straightened and curled his clawed fingers over the pommel of his sword as his black eyebrows pinched low and his broad lips flattened.
Grave watched him closely, wary of the newcomer. He was young, appearing little more than in his early twenties to mortal eyes, but that meant nothing when it came to demons, especially those of the Devil’s ranks.
This male could easily decimate both sides of the warriors gathered before him.
It was rare for one of his kind to leave the Devil’s realm, although as far as Grave could tell, the male still stood within the threshold of his dark lord’s lands.
The sensation of death and power that he exuded seemed to grow stronger as he searched the faces of the warriors, and many of them began backing away from him, some of the Preux Chevaliers included.
Grave remained where he was, beyond the line of demons and vampires now forming between him and the newcomer.
The young male ran the claws of his left gauntlet around the curve of his polished black horn and then ran the pad of his thumb across the pointed tip. They looked as if they had been sharpened, made even more deadly.
The longer Grave watched him, the stronger a sensation within him grew, a feeling that he knew the male even though he also felt sure he had never met him before.
He was oddly familiar.
But then, most demons looked the same to him.
The male’s broad bare chest shifted in a deep sigh and he moved his left foot, his shoulders twisting as he went to turn away.
His eyes landed on Grave.
He stilled and narrowed his gaze, and his demeanour darkened, the sense of power that flowed from him becoming a crushing wave as he turned back to face him and lifted his left hand.
Pointed right at Grave.
“You,” the male snarled through sharp fangs and Grave had half a mind to point a finger at his chest and blink hard.
Instead, he remained perfectly still and held his calm façade even as a question pounded in his mind.
What had he done to deserve the bastard’s attention?

Possessed by a Dark Warrior
A powerful warrior and commander of the dark elf legions, Bleu is a loyal and devoted male, and one who has never failed in anything—except one thing. Love. When an elusive female dragon shifter surfaces in Hell again, giving him a mission to hurl himself into, he gladly returns to his hunt for her and the deadly blade she stole from his prince seven centuries ago, but as he closes in on his prey, fate reveals she is far more than his enemy?

Having escaped from the black market arena and her life as a slave, Taryn sets her sights back on the task she began seven hundred years ago when her brother stole a precious sword, but in the three centuries she’s been a captive, everything has changed. Corrupted by a craving for power, her brother has become dangerously obsessed with finding the blade and using it to claim the ultimate treasure—the position of King of Hell.

Faced with having to end her beloved twin to stop him from bringing all of Hell to its knees before him, will Taryn be strong enough to use the very blade he seeks against him? And when Bleu finally catches his elusive prey, will he listen to his head as it demands he complete his mission or his heart as it demands he claim his eternal mate?

Excerpt
The valley seemed larger from the floor of it, the mountains taller and more forbidding as they loomed over her. She felt small and vulnerable, her step uneasy as she walked forwards despite the voice in her heart that told her to turn back.
To leave before he realised she was here.
Taryn pulled down a deep breath, wishing it would steady her even though she knew it wouldn’t. The last thirty breaths she had sucked in to calm herself had had no effect, so it was ridiculous to expect the thirty first to succeed where they had failed. There would be no settling of her fears, not until she had faced them.
Her eyes locked on the distant citadel where it rose from the black rock of the mountains at the opposite end of the valley as if they had birthed it, the sheer spires as pointed and cragged as the peaks beyond it, causing it to blend into the range. It sent a chill through her just to look at it, a place fit for a king but also for a killer.
Distant howls of Hell beasts mingled with the thunderous boom of rock splitting open in the valleys beyond the one she traversed, but down in the basin of the Valley of the Dark Edge, it was quiet.
Ominously quiet.
No sign of life stirred in the black land, but the shadows that crawled outwards from the gnarled black trees still made her jittery, causing her to jump at times when a flash of amber light shot up from one of the jagged fault lines she had seen in the other valleys and made them dance across the obsidian earth, reaching towards her like smoky claws.
There was only death in this valley.
It surrounded her, always there wherever her gaze fell.
The evidence that her brother killed anything that roamed into his domain.
Taryn slowed as she passed another set of bones, picked clean and startlingly bright in the dim light that passed for day. This one was the skeleton of a Hell beast, enormous and canine-like, with broken horns that protruded from its broad skull. She had fought enough of its kind to recognise one without its flesh.
She pulled her gaze away from it and continued walking on a direct path to the castle. It was closer now, but she had been walking for hours and had crossed only a tiny fraction of the valley floor.
Another flash of light leaped across the land as lava spewed high in a valley beyond the mountains to her right, and she stopped dead, her heart lodged in her throat and her eyes fixed on the empty pits in the skull just metres ahead of her.
Dragon.
Tears filled her eyes as she walked towards it, shaking her head as her heart ached. Her eyebrows furrowed as she neared it and she reached a hand out. It trembled in the air and her instincts told her to turn away, to not look at the skull of one of her kind, the damning evidence that her brother had truly lost his mind.
He had killed a dragon.
Taryn swallowed hard and laid her shaking hand on the beaked snout. The bone was cool beneath her palm and her senses stretched along it, mapping the shape of the skull, from its enormous teeth to the ridged bone above the eye sockets, to the four horns that flared back from the top of the skull.
Still gold in colour.
She dashed away the tears in her eyes with her free hand as she tried not to picture the dragon as it would have been, a beautiful and majestic gold, its scales shimmering and reflecting what little light pierced the dragon realm.
Tenak had killed it.
He had destroyed its beauty.
Gods, she felt sick.
She covered her mouth and looked beyond the skull, to the shattered bones of its spine and ribs, and the scattered wing bones that lay around it. It had been big. A male. Ancient.
She turned away, screwed her eyes shut and fought for air. Her fingers clasped the leather strap across her chest, the power of the magic humming beneath her fierce grip, drawing her focus to the weapon she carried.
A sword capable of ending her brother with one blow.
She swore to the dragon gods that she would avenge her kin. She would stop her brother.
Taryn marched forwards, pinning her gaze on the citadel again, her steps steadier and stronger than they had been in centuries. She knew her purpose, and she wouldn’t falter. Her brother had gone mad, and she would stop him before he turned that madness on anyone else.
She closed her eyes briefly as she passed the barbed tip of the dragon’s tail and prayed to the gods and her ancestors that she didn’t end up like the poor soul. Her step faltered but she forced herself to keep marching, refused to slow her pace or allow her fear to get the better of her. She had a plan, and she believed in it.
Her brother had lost his mind, and to win his trust, she would act as if she had lost hers.
She lost herself in going over her plan as she walked, her feet growing sore again in her boots as the miles stacked up. The light in the valley began to fade. Night was falling. The dragon realm was so far from the elf kingdom that the light the fae brought into their world from the mortal one was weak when it reached it, barely able to drive the darkness back in the day, and leaving the world pitch black at night.
Her mind filled with images of what that fae kingdom had looked like and her bones warmed with the memory of how the light had felt on her skin. It had been so bright that her eyes had hurt and the land so colourful that it had been like a fantasy. A dream.
Did the mortal world look like the elf kingdom?
Was it lush and green, threaded with blue rivers, spotted with all the colours possible?
Gods, she could imagine that it was, and it made her ache to see it, to fly there as her ancestors had, long ago before they had been banished to Hell.
Her shoulders itched, her wings aching for freedom, the urge to shift rushing through her once more and pushing at her control.
A roar shattered the silence and robbed her of her breath.
Taryn stiffened.
He was coming.
A black shadow loomed above the castle, wrapped around it for a heartbeat before it spread enormous wings and took flight.
Her fingers shook so hard she struggled to tear the leather cuffs off her wrists, her breath trembling across her lips as she tore at the thick material.
“Hurry, hurry, hurry,” she chanted as she ripped at the leather and one finally gave way, falling to the earth at her feet. She began to work on the other, her eyes darting between it and the shadowy dragon racing towards her. She had to get the cuffs off to break the spell. It was her only chance of getting him to recognise her.
Or at least, she hoped he would recognise her.
She ripped the second cuff off just as he landed hard only metres from her, causing the ground to shake and sending a blast of grit at her on a gust of wind that knocked her onto her backside. Pain bolted up her spine from the impact and she ground her teeth.
Out of the gloom, a rich deep violet head emerged, gigantic compared with her in her mortal form.
Bright violet eyes focused on her and the short spines that followed the ridge of bone above them rippled as he snorted, blowing hot air at her and the scent of ash. He growled, a strange disjointed sound that undulated around her, and bared his fangs. They gleamed in the low light, each as long as her arm, as sharp as a blade.
Taryn didn’t dare move.
